My Milan...
“One of the fashion capitals of the world, where everyone understands couture, and where you can buy works of art to wear. Via Montenapoleone, Via della Spiga, Via Sant’Andrea are known the world over as THE places to go for the latest chic purchases and celebrity spotting. This area known as the Quadrilatero is where the well-heeled are happy to pay the highest prices for luxury goods whether it’s the latest Hermes Bag, Gucci shoes, or Louis Vuitton luggage. And just a few steps from the magnificent cathedral is the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a stunning building full of designer shops where visitors can happily window shop and enjoy the 19th century architecture.
But it is not all designer shops and designer prices. If it is budget shopping that you are looking for, Milan also has plenty to offer; from outlets and local markets to small boutiques and mainstream department stores, you will have your choice of great fashion at an affordable price.”

Fashion Week: February/March and September/October. The whole city celebrates fashion in one way or another. The official fashions shows are by invitation only, but there are many alternative events in which a visitor can participate. Fiera di Senigallia: Via Calatafimi, Milan A colorful, traditional flea market that brings all kinds of antiques, second hand finds and collectibles to the streets along the Darsena. Open every Saturday morning. Mercatone del Naviglio Grande: Alzaia Naviglio Grande, Milan Over 400 vendors make this one of the largest antique markets in Milan. Most vendors have their own shops along the Naviglio Grande. Books, toys, jewelry and furniture are found amongst the stalls. Open the last Sunday of every month from 8:30 to 18:30.
Mercato di Viale Papiniano: Viale Papiniano, Milan This marker has become well known for its great fashion bargains. Clothes and shoes are a must. Held every Tuesday and Saturday morning.
'Oh bei, oh bei!' - Fiera di Sant'Ambrogio: Piazza Sant'Ambrogio, Milan This Christmas market is held at the beginning of December to coincide with the celebration of the Festa di Sant’Ambrogio. It is a favorite with many locals, not only for the range of presents one can buy at the fair, but for its festive atmosphere.

"It is difficult to choose a favorite place to go shopping in Milan. I find that each area has a different personality. Some days I enjoy going to the well trusted and familiar stores of Corso Vittorio Emanuele, where Max Mara, Zara, H&M, Swatch and Furla share space with the street performers and coffee shops. Other days I just want to see the invigorating stores of via Torino that appeal to a younger crowd with short attention span. If I want a little bit more originality, then I head to the alternative scene at Corso Ticinese, where one can find small boutiques as well as some of the greatest vintage shops in town."
